Description:
The Department of English of the University of Kitakyushu offers
students three programs in English: Language & Education, Culture &
Society, and Global Business. The Language & Education Program is
currently staffed by four full-time faculty members specializing in
linguistics and language education. To maintain the educational and
research capacity of the department with the retirement of one faculty
member, we are seeking a specialist in linguistics who can teach core
linguistics courses and contribute to the development of the
curriculum. Sociolinguistics and Pragmatics are core courses essential
to a systematic grounding in linguistics, and the department must
maintain a stable, ongoing offering of these subjects. In addition to
sociolinguistics, expansion into new specialist areas—such as corpus
linguistics and the use of AI in language study—is anticipated as a
means of further developing the department's educational and research
capacity.
Against this background, this recruitment seeks an individual who
possesses the teaching and research competence to cover linguistics
broadly, including sociolinguistics and pragmatics, and who brings new
insights and educational breadth to the department. In particular, we
welcome candidates who are able to teach and conduct research in
linguistics in English and who can contribute to strengthening the
department's international and practice-oriented educational
environment.

Communicative English V (2 sections) [10 courses per year in total,
with one course=90 min]
 - There is a possibility of teaching other courses in the Language
and Education program or new courses to be offered in the future.
