Journal: Scripta Manent
Issue: Climate Change and Languages for Specific Purposes (LSP)
Call Deadline: 01-Sep-2026

Call for Papers for an issue on Climate Change and Languages for
Specific Purposes (LSP)
Theme and Scope:
Climate change has emerged as one of today’s most urgent global
challenges, spanning scientific, professional, institutional, and
socio-economic domains. Since it is mostly manifested through language
– in areas such as science, policy, law, economics, education, media,
and activism – it is a rich field for studying specialized discourse.
Scripta Manent invites contributions from scholars working in LSP,
ESP, discourse studies, translation & interpreting studies, applied
linguistics, and related fields that examine climate change from an
LSP perspective. We welcome studies on genres, discourse practices,
registers, multimodality, translation, interpreting, pedagogy,
professional communication, and knowledge mediation, including lexical
and terminological issues as part of broader analyses. Papers can be
written in Slovene, English, German, Italian, and French.
The topics can address (but are not limited to):
 - climate change discourse across specialized domains,
 - communicative practices of specialized fields in view of climate
change,
 - terminology and conceptualization of climate change in LSP
contexts,
 - multilingual and intercultural mediation of environmental issues,
 - institutional language and climate change policies,
 - reshaping the LSP practices towards climate change awareness,
 - multimodality and climate change communication,
 - climate-related professional communication in online platforms and
social media,
 - critical and ethical perspectives on climate change reflected in
LSP,
 - AI-mediated climate change discourse in specialized fields.
