Anyone passionate about field linguistics, language documentation, and
community-based collaborations who would like to work in a team

Focus:
- Field methods and glossing sessions
- Team-based collaboration with native speakers of Tsova-Tush
- Hands-on linguistic analysis, including morphosyntax, phonology, and
semantics
Description:
Participants in the first ZAFieR (Zemo Alvani Field Research) Summer
Research Program will be actively involved in fieldwork, linguistic
analysis, and tutorials led by specialists in the field. Although the
program focuses on a Caucasian language, it welcomes anyone interested
in developing practical skills in language documentation and analysis
through close collaboration with native speakers.
 Program Structure
- Mornings: Tutorials on language documentation, community-based
research and major subfields of Tsova-Tush grammar
- Afternoons: Team-based fieldwork sessions with Tsova-Tush speakers,
supervised by experienced researchers.
- Evenings: Debrief sessions
Financial Aid Applications accepted until 17-Apr-2026
Partial financial aid is available to help students cover living costs
in Zemo Alvani, and will be granted upon completion of the selection
process.
Financial Aid Instructions:
Students may apply for financial aid by submitting a letter signed by
their supervisor, confirming that they will not receive full funding
from their university and specifying the requested amount.
Please send a letter signed by your supervisor/department head to
zafier.project at gmail.com, indicating (a) how much financial support
you would have for your participation in the ZAFieR Summer Research
Week, and (b) how much additional support you would need in order to
participate.
