The School of Humanities (SoH) at NTU Singapore is committed to
disciplinary excellence and interdisciplinary innovation, with
particular strengths in Digital, Health, and Environmental Humanities,
and the study of Global Asia. SoH is part of the College of
Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences (CoHASS), which aims to be Asia’s
leading centre for innovative, interdisciplinary Humanities, Arts and
Social Science research and practice.
The Position:
The Chinese Programme in the School of Humanities at Nanyang
Technological University invites applications for a tenure-track
Assistant Professor position in Global China, broadly conceived. We
seek humanities scholars whose research on modern or contemporary
China situates Chinese societies, cultures, and Chinese-language
worlds within broader global and transregional contexts. The
successful candidate will further global China-focused research and
teaching in SoH, and also participate in CoHASS’s new Global Asian
Research Centre.
Research Profile:
Particular interest lies in research exploring cultural circulation,
mobility, cities and everyday life, transregional connections, or
knowledge, science, technology, and environmental practices in Chinese
contexts. Geographical scope could be Asia-wide, Southeast Asian,
African or more broadly global.
The successful candidate will contribute to undergraduate and graduate
teaching and supervision, aligned with the Programme’s curriculum and
research directions. While the administrative language of the
University is English, candidates are also expected to be able to
teach in Chinese.
Requirements:
Requirements include:
- A PhD in or in a related field.
- Evidence of strong scholarly promise, a developing publication
profile and a path to make impact with their research
- Demonstrated commitment to high-quality teaching and student
mentorship, at both undergraduate and (desirable) postgraduate level
- An interest in collaborative, interdisciplinary, and
internationally-engaged research
- Good communication and interpersonal skills, and ability to build
relationships and networks with colleagues and external stakeholders
across the university and externally
- Ability to make a significant contribution to administrative work.
- Demonstrated commitment to contribute to school, college and
university-level initiatives in accordance with strategy at all levels
of the organisation.
- For associate and full Professor roles, a research profile,
teaching and supervision track record and leadership/service
experience appropriate to the role
Remuneration:
Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
