Linguistic Field(s): Lexicography; Text/Corpus Linguistics

Submission Deadline: 30-Apr-2026

AFRILEX is celebrating its 30th year of existence. To commemorate this
special occasion, the AFRILEX Board decided on a theme that engages
with the role the association’s members and affiliates played in
Africa’s lexicographic landscape over the last 30 years.
Abstracts dealing with all aspects of lexicography and terminology, or
the demonstrable implications or ramifications that research in
related disciplines such as linguistics, computer and information
science, etc., has for lexicography or terminology will be considered.
All submissions will be adjudicated. The conference language is
English. The conference is expected to be held in-person.
Deadline for Abstract and Proposal Submission:
Prospective presenters are to submit abstracts or session proposals to
reach AFRILEX not later than 30 April 2026.
Abstract Format:
Abstracts should be formatted according to the template (downloadable
from the conference website). Abstracts must be between 600 and 800
words long (including references) for adjudicators to make informed
judgements on the central argument of the paper, especially given that
conference proceedings are not published. Abstracts that are
incomplete or incorrectly formatted will be returned to the
corresponding author. Please pay special attention to the format of
citations and reference lists. Please only include sources cited in
the abstract. Abstracts should contain the following elements: a
central argument, methodology, and some (preliminary) conclusions. All
citations should be accounted for in a list of references. Submissions
that do not comply with these requirements will, unfortunately, be
rejected.
Abstracts should be sent by email to afrilexabstracts at gmail.com
Process and Procedures:
Receipt of abstracts will be acknowledged, and feedback will be given
to authors as soon as the abstracts are received back from the
adjudicators. Abstracts of accepted papers will be distributed during
the conference. MS PowerPoint Presentation facilities will be
available. As a backup, presenters are invited to email their
presentation to the organizer ahead of the conference.
Presenters Please Note:
Presenters of papers and special sessions must register before 31 May
2026.
Abstract Processing Committee:
Dr André H. du Plessis, Dr Lorna Morris and Dr Blanche Nyingone Assam
