Translation remains a cornerstone of the global economy, international
trade, finance, and institutional activity. However, the field is
undergoing a profound transformation driven by the integration of
artificial intelligence (AI) and machine translation (MT), which are
redefining the very foundations of professional practice.
Despite these changes, academic research is advancing at an uneven
pace in comparison with technological developments. Studies on MT in
the economic and financial domain are still scarce and, in many cases,
adopt broad and generalist approaches that do not fully address key
aspects such as specialized terminology or domain-specific knowledge.
Moreover, the rapid evolution of MT engines raises questions about the
relevance of earlier studies and highlights the need to reassess
current analytical frameworks.
At the same time, the professional landscape remains relatively
inaccessible from within academia. The lack of data on real-world
practices, combined with the industry’s confidential nature, makes it
difficult to assess the actual impact of these technologies on
workflows and on the competences of specialized translators.
In light of this situation, fostering dialogue between research and
professional practice is essential in order to generate applied
knowledge that moves beyond general diagnoses and also contributes to
the enhancement of translator training.
Within this context, the University of Alicante is hosting the 7th
International Conference on Economic, Business, Financial and
Institutional Translation, which aims not only to bring together
researchers, lecturers, translators and professionals in the field,
but also to promote the exchange of experiences, research findings,
and methodological or pedagogical proposals that support the critical,
responsible and well-grounded integration of MT and AI in this area of
specialization.
We welcome papers on topics related to economic, business, financial,
or institutional translation, covering any of the following areas:
- Systematic evaluation of terminological and phraseological errors
generated by MT systems in specific subfields of economics.
- Professional experiences that document the actual use of MT and AI
in business and financial translation, including their integration
into workflows, terminological decision-making, post-editing
practices, and the practical challenges of professional work.
- Development and evaluation of MT engines specialized in the economic
domain, with particular attention to dataset creation, training
methodologies, empirical comparison with general-purpose MT engines,
and the replicability of results.
- Design and validation of post-editing guidelines tailored to
economic documents, based on criteria of quality, terminological
consistency and efficiency.
- Analysis of the impact of specialized economic knowledge on
post-editing quality, coherence and terminological accuracy.
- Educational experiences integrating MT, AI or post-editing into the
teaching and learning of business and financial translation as tools
for accessing specialized knowledge.
- Studies on prompt engineering applied to business and financial
translation, with particular emphasis on controlled generation and
terminological adaptation.
- Social research studies that, through surveys, interviews or other
empirical methods, analyse the use, perception and acceptance of MT
and AI among professional translators, lecturers and students of
business and financial translation.
This list serves as a guide and is not exhaustive. Any other topic or
approach related to the conference themes may be submitted for
consideration.
Those interested in presenting a communication may do so in Spanish,
French, or English. Researchers wishing to participate must submit a
proposal of approximately 400 words through the abstract submission
form, outlining the research problem, the objectives, the theoretical
and methodological framework, the methodology applied, and the main
findings. Relevant bibliographical references must also be included,
in accordance with APA style.
A maximum of two proposals may be submitted, provided that the author
is a co-author of at least one of them. Presentations will last 20
minutes, followed by five minutes for discussion.
Researchers interested in publishing their work in Mutatis Mutandis,
Revista Latinoamericana de Traducción (ISSN 2011-799X), published by
the University of Antioquia (Colombia), are invited to submit a
proposal in accordance with the terms set out in the journal’s open
call for 2028 (Vol. 21, No. 1).
Likewise, a selection of accepted papers, following peer review, will
be considered for publication in trans-kom (ISSN 1867-4844), Volume
21, July 2028, in line with the journal's language policy.
