Issue: Typographic Landscapes: Migrating Types
Call Deadline: 02-Sep-2026
We invite submissions for a special issue of Visible Language titled
‘Typographic Landscapes: Migrating types – typographic meaning-making
across boundaries’ connecting scholarship in typography, graphic
communication, and sociolinguistics to investigate typographic
activities as social practices in public spaces.
We welcome contributions that bring these disciplinary perspectives
into fruitful dialogue and focus on typographic meaning-making across
cultural, geographical, and temporal boundaries – including themes of
migration, identity, belonging, place-making, and cultural hegemony.
This issue will be of interest to academics, practitioners, and
students working with type, text, and language in built, urban, rural,
or virtual environments.
Deadline for submissions: Wednesday, 2 September 2026
Expected date of publication: Early 2027
