The Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM), the Escuela
Nacional de Antropología e Historia (ENAH), and the Centro de
Investigaciones y Estudios Superiores en Antropología Social
(CIESAS-Ciudad de México) are pleased to announce the 1st
International Meeting on Morphology of Underrepresented Languages and
Varieties, which will take place at the Escuela Nacional de
Antropología e Historia in Mexico City from October 7 to 9, 2026.
The aim of this meeting is to promote a space for dialogue,
collaboration, and dissemination regarding the study of morphology and
its interfaces, with particular emphasis on word complexity,
linguistic diversity, and methodological pluralism. The conference
also seeks to strengthen collaborative academic networks and encourage
innovative research on underrepresented languages and varieties.
Keynote Speakers:
- Enrique L. Palancar (CNRS)
- Violeta Vázquez Rojas (COLMEX-SECIHTI)
- Carolyn O’Meara (IIFL-UNAM)
- Carlos Ivanhoe Gil Burgoin (UABC)
We invite submissions addressing topics related to morphology and its
interfaces, including:
- Word structure and complexity
- Grammatical interfaces
- Word formation
- Descriptive and typological morphology
- Theoretical and methodological perspectives
- Morphological variation and change
- Applied morphology
Abstract Submission Guidelines:
- Abstracts must not exceed two pages (single-spaced, Times New Roman
12 pt), including examples, figures, and references.
- Submissions must be anonymous and sent in both Word (.doc/.docx) and
PDF formats.
- Proposals should be sent to encuentrodemorfologia at gmail.com with the
subject line “Morphology proposal”.
- The body of the email must include the author’s full name,
institutional affiliation, academic degree, and title of the
presentation.
Presentation Formats:
- 20-minute presentations + 10 minutes for discussion
- Presentations may be delivered in Spanish or English
- Thematic panels (3–4 speakers) are welcome
- Poster proposals are also accepted
Registration Fees**
- Faculty/researchers: MX $500
- Graduate students: MX $350
- Undergraduate students: MX $200
**A limited number of fee waivers will be available for presenters who
are speakers of minoritized languages and for undergraduate
presenters. Applicants must explicitly request this when submitting
their proposal.
