The 12th International Conference Building Cultural Bridges (ICBCB
2026), organized by SDU University in Kazakhstan, invites researchers
to submit 250–300 word extended abstracts in Kazakh, English, or
Russian through the CMT portal. The conference focuses on
high-quality, original scholarly contributions. Accepted authors must
present their work at the conference, which will take place online on
October 9 and onsite on October 15–16, 2026, in Kaskelen and Almaty,
Kazakhstan. Submissions undergo a double-blind peer review process
based on criteria such as relevance to the conference theme, research
gap, methodology, and implications. The conference features
internationally recognized keynote speakers in education, linguistics,
sociolinguistics, and data analysis, including Sender Dovchin, Juldyz
Smagulova, Andrew Peterson, Jim McKinley, and Heath Rose. Selected
papers may also be published in the SDU journal Pedagogy and Teaching
Methods (included in the 2nd list of SHEQAC / MES RK).
The conference is strongly connected to linguistics, particularly
applied linguistics, sociolinguistics, multilingualism, language
policy, and language education. In fact, ICBCB 2026 is being organized
jointly with the 4th Annual ELIPro Conference, which specifically
focuses on multilingual futures, language, identity, and educational
policy.
Several conference tracks are directly related to linguistics,
including:
 - New Trends in Applied Linguistics
 - Multilingual Identities, Perspectives, and Education
 - Education Policy Challenges: Multilingualism & Language Hierarchies
 - Pluricentrical Language Teaching in a Globalised World
 - Online Environments for Language Education
 - The History of Kazakh Language within Multilingual Education in
Kazakhstan
The conference also features internationally recognized scholars in
linguistics and applied linguistics, such as Heath Rose, Sender
Dovchin, Juldyz Smagulova, and Jim McKinley. Their expertise covers
areas such as EMI (English Medium Instruction), sociolinguistics,
multilingualism, language ideology, TESOL, language policy, academic
writing, and language education.
