Description:
Initially the successful candidate starts as an Assistant Professor
with a qualification agreement for a fixed term tenure phase of six
years. After successful completion of the qualification goals, the
position will be converted into a permanent Associate Professor
position.
The successful candidate will contribute to the subject of English
linguistics within the bachelor’s and master’s programmes, the teacher
training programme in English Studies / American Studies, and the
doctoral programme, in both research and teaching. The post holder
will also be responsible for the field of applied linguistics, with a
focus on language as a means of communication within a social context.
A particular focus is on pragmatics and/or sociolinguistics. Further
desired areas of specialisation include multilingualism, discourse
analysis, intercultural communication, language variation and topics
of the curriculum for teaching English at the secondary level.
The professorship is rooted in the empirical research (e.g. using
experimental, corpus-based or variationist linguistic methods) of
language and communication in their social context.
In addition, the position holder will also identify links to other
core research areas of the Department and the Faculty or a field of
excellence of the University of Graz.
Active participation in the core topic ‘Multilingualism, Migration and
Cultural Transformation’ and/or ‘Perception: Episteme, Aesthetics,
Politics’ is desired.
