Merlin's Syntax Studio is a free, browser-based syntax tree generator
designed for linguists, syntax instructors, and students. It converts
bracketed expressions into clean syntactic tree diagrams and supports
commonly needed notation for phrase-structure trees, including
multiline labels, visible and hidden movement indices, strikethrough
traces/copies, italic text, outline text, Greek letters, triangle/roof
notation, and customizable movement links.
The tool provides an interactive workspace where users can edit
bracket expressions and immediately preview the resulting tree.
Movement links can be shown or hidden individually, recolored, and
manually adjusted. Trees can be exported as SVG, white-background PNG,
transparent PNG, and complete Forest LaTeX code for use in papers,
handouts, slides, or Overleaf projects.
Users may work in guest mode without registration. Optional login
through email, Google, or GitHub allows signed-in users to save their
latest 20 generated trees. The interface currently supports English,
Chinese, Japanese, and Korean.
