Subject: Call for Research Participants: Forms of Address to Strangers in English (Native English Speakers, 18+)
We are looking for native speakers of English (18+) to take part in a
short anonymous online survey on how people address strangers in
everyday situations, such as asking for directions, talking to a shop
assistant or speaking to a taxi driver.
The study is part of doctoral research at the Department of Uzbek
Linguistics, Karakalpak State University named after Berdakh (Nukus,
Uzbekistan). It compares English with Uzbek, in which strangers are
often addressed with kinship terms such as aka ('elder brother'), opa
('elder sister') or xola ('aunt'). The results will contribute to
research on forms of address, politeness and intercultural
communication.
The survey takes about 10 minutes. It includes eight short everyday
situations, two rating tasks and a few background questions. No names
or email addresses are collected, and there are no right or wrong
answers.

We would be very grateful if you could also share the survey with
other native speakers of English.
