Subject: British Association for Applied Linguistics (BAAL) 2027 Solidarity Membership
Applications are now open for BAAL Solidarity Membership 2027
I am pleased to announce the opportunity to apply for a BAAL 2027
Solidarity Membership.
The solidarity membership category aims to support the following
current key priorities for BAAL:
- Equality, diversity and inclusion
- Developing our international outlook
- Multilingual representation
The scheme offers up to 10 fee-free annual memberships to applicants
who meet one, or more, of the following criteria:
- Residency in a low- or lower-middle income country, as defined by
the World Bank, including postgraduate research students from these
countries
- Refugee or Asylum Seeker status, anywhere in the world
- Currently without an institutional affiliation (if you are a
student, then your host university provides you with an institutional
affiliation)
- Currently employed on a fixed-term contract of 12 months or less,
anywhere in the world
Why join BAAL?
Membership of the British Association for Applied Linguistics connects
you to a vibrant community of applied linguistics researchers and
practitioners. Members benefit from reduced conference fees, access to
BAAL newsletters and the Baalmail e-list, participation in Special
Interest Groups (SIGs), and opportunities for research funding and
professional development.
If you have already renewed your BAAL membership for 2027, you meet
the criteria, and you are successful in your application, we will
reimburse your membership fee.
If you would like to apply for one of the 10 solidarity memberships,
please complete the attached BAAL Solidarity Membership Application
Form, which can be accessed via this link

and send the completed form to the BAAL EC Ordinary Member, Dr Elvis
ResCue <e.rescue at bham.ac.uk> & <elvisrescue at gmail.com>.
Please send your application by Friday, 4th December 2026.
Please could I also ask you to share this information about the
