You write a figure in a few lines of code and it renders as you type.
You can export it as PNG, SVG or PDF. The app runs entirely in your
browser. There is nothing to install, no account, and no server: your
code and figures never leave your computer. It has a Phonology tab, a
Syntax tab and ready-made examples to start from.
App: https://figs.gdgarcia.ca
The app runs Typst, a modern typesetting system that compiles in
milliseconds and has a much gentler learning curve than LaTeX. It is
built on two open-source packages that you can also use directly in
any Typst document.
phonokit: a toolkit for phonological representations
https://gdgarcia.ca/phonokit
  - IPA transcription with tipa-style input, so existing tipa habits
carry over (Unicode IPA works too)
  - Vowel trapezoids (2d and 3d) and consonant charts, with predefined
language inventories and arrows
  - Prosodic structure (syllables, moras, feet, prosodic words) and
metrical grids
  - Autosegmental representations
  - Sonority profiles
  - Feature matrices for SPE-style rules
  - Hasse diagrams, OT and MaxEnt tableaux with automatic calculation
of candidate probabilities
In LaTeX, this range usually takes several separate packages, each
with its own syntax, a considerable manual work. phonokit puts all of
it in one package with one consistent interface and easy-to-use
functions that are focused on automating outputs as much as possible.
synkit: a toolkit for syntactic representations
https://gdgarcia.ca/synkit
  - Phrase-structure trees from labelled bracket notation
  - Movement arrows and multidominance
  - Semantic annotation on nodes
  - Equivalence lines across trees
  - Numbered examples and interlinear glosses
  - Node labels are automatically created, and code follows a more
minimalistic philosophy than LaTeX alternatives
Both packages are MIT-licensed and published on Typst Universe, the
official Typst package registry. Each one has a full PDF manual:
  - phonokit manual: https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.18260076
  - synkit manual: https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.19405774
  - Source code: https://github.com/guilhermegarcia/phonokit and
https://github.com/guilhermegarcia/synkit
The app always runs the latest published versions of both packages.
Citation information (APA and BibTeX) is in the app's About tab.
Feedback, bug reports and feature requests are very welcome, on GitHub
or through https://gdgarcia.ca/contact.
