The CIEL Centre, 1 Decembrie 1918 University of Alba Iulia, Romania,
together with its academic partners, is pleased to announce the 15th
Conference on Linguistic and Intercultural Education – CLIE-2026, to
be held on-site in Alba Iulia, Romania, from 23 to 25 October 2026.
Special Theme:
Voices Across Borders: Translanguaging, Identity, and Inclusion from
Local Roots to Global Dialogue
CLIE-2026 brings together researchers, educators, linguists, and
policymakers to explore how translanguaging, cross-border
communication, heritage language practices, and intercultural
education sustain cultural diversity in multilingual societies.
The conference particularly welcomes contributions addressing:
 - transborder and minority linguistic identities in Romania and the
wider European region;
 - intergenerational language transmission and cultural continuity;
 - translanguaging as pedagogy and practice in multilingual classrooms
and communities;
 - sociolinguistic resilience in contexts of migration, displacement,
and cultural assimilation;
 - revitalization of regional and minority languages;
 - multilingualism in policy and public life, particularly in border
and diaspora regions;
 - linguistic landscapes, digital documentation, and community
language archives;
 - cultural narratives and oral traditions as linguistic acts of
memory and resistance.
While the 2026 edition is centred on this special theme, proposals are
not limited to these topics. CLIE also welcomes theoretical and
empirical contributions in its established conference sections:
 - Foreign/Second Language Teaching and Teacher Education
 - Second Language Acquisition
 - Intercultural Pragmatics and Cultural Linguistics
 - Sociolinguistics
 - Discourse Analysis, Rhetoric, and Pragmatics
 - Contrastive Linguistics
 - Semantics and Stylistics
 - Translation, Interpreting, and Mediation
 - Corpus and Computational Linguistics
 - Intercultural Business Communication
Submission:
Proposals should be submitted through the CLIE-2026 online
Registration Form by 16 October 2026.
Registration and abstract submission form:

Submissions should include:
 - paper title;
 - 300–500-word abstract;
 - five keywords;
 - brief bibliography (5–10 references, APA 7th edition);
 - short biographical note.
The abstract should clearly present the problem statement and research
objectives, research methods and instruments, key results and
conclusions, and relevant references.
Important Dates:
Abstract submission deadline: 16 October 2026
Notification of acceptance: 17 October 2026
Final conference programme: 18 October 2026
Conference dates: 23–25 October 2026
Full papers for publication consideration: 1 March 2027
Publication:
A selection of extended papers, following peer review, will be
considered for publication in the Journal of Linguistic and
Intercultural Education (JoLIE) 2027. A peer-reviewed selection of
conference papers will also be considered for publication in a
monographic collection by an international publisher.
