Subject: English; Computational Linguistics: Assistant/Associate/Full Professor, United Arab Emirates University
Job Location: Al-Ain, United Arab Emirates
Web Address:
https://www.uaeu.ac.ae/en/chss/departments/cognitive_sciences.shtml
Job Title: Assistant/Associate/Full Professor
Job Rank: Rank Open
Minimum Education: PhD in Linguistics (or related fields)
Specialty Areas: Computational Linguistics
Specialty Language(s): English (eng, stan1293)
Other Specialties: Speech Technology, Artificial Intelligence
Description:
The Department of Cognitive Sciences at the United Arab Emirates
University (UAEU) invites applications for a full-time faculty
position in computational linguistics at the rank of Assistant,
Associate or Full Professor. The appointment will support the redesign
of our BA in Linguistics as a BSc in Computational Linguistics and
Speech Technology, integrating the program’s existing strengths in
linguistics with computational methods and applications in language
and speech technology. The successful candidate will help shape and
deliver the new program, with a substantial teaching contribution in
computational linguistics and speech technology. Experience in
curriculum design and program development will be an advantage.
Applicants with a research and publication record in computational
linguistics and/or natural language processing (NLP), as well as in
interdisciplinary research spanning theoretical, experimental, and
computational linguistics, will be a great asset. Research, teaching,
and leadership expectations are commensurate with the rank of
appointment.
The language of instruction at UAEU is English. Applicants should
possess excellent spoken and written English, suitable for university
teaching. Knowledge of Arabic is not necessary but would be an
advantage.
The Department of Cognitive Sciences at UAEU is a vibrant,
interdisciplinary department with an excellent track record in
research. Our current team of linguists has extensive research
experience in theoretical and experimental linguistics. In addition to
linguistics, the department also hosts a BA program in Psychology and
is the academic home for several researchers active in the field of
philosophy. The UAEU is located in Al Ain city, in the Emirate of Abu
Dhabi, on the border with Oman and about 1.5 hours’ drive from both
Dubai and Abu Dhabi cities.
The UAEU offers an attractive tax-free salary, free housing, medical
insurance, and annual return airfares to the country of origin for
expatriate employees and their immediate families. There is also a
modest relocation allowance and a generous furniture allowance on
appointment, as well as other benefits, including an education subsidy
for children.
The application package should include: a cover letter, CV, a
statement of research (including current/future research activities
with links), a statement of teaching philosophy, and a list of courses
you are able to teach.
Applicants must have an earned doctorate in linguistics or a closely
related field. Experience teaching in multicultural contexts where
many students are not native speakers of English may be an advantage.
The successful candidate would be expected to start work at UAEU in
January 2027 or as soon as possible thereafter.
Deadline for applications: October 30, 2026 (or until filled)
