The Chicago Linguistic Society (CLS) is the oldest student-run
linguistics organization in the United States. This academic year, CLS
will host its 63rd Annual Meeting (CLS 63), to be held from March 26th
through March 28th, 2027 at the University of Chicago. Upholding a
longstanding tradition, the conference serves as a forum for leading
scholars and researchers from around the world to engage in the
exchange of ideas across all areas of linguistics. CLS is particularly
committed to fostering interdisciplinary engagement and promoting the
value of diverse theoretical perspectives and methodological
approaches within the field.
Invited Speakers:
Melissa Baese-Berk (University of Chicago)
J Calder (University of Colorado Boulder)
Kyle Johnson (University of Massachusetts Amherst)
Liina Pylkkanen (New York University)
Justin Royer (University of Montreal)
Alexis Wellwood (University of Southern California)
We invite submission of abstracts for 20-minute talks and poster
presentations on any topic of linguistic inquiry pertaining to spoken
or signed languages. Subfields may include but are not limited to
syntax, morphology, semantics, pragmatics, language acquisition,
phonetics, phonology, psycholinguistics, neurolinguistics,
sociolinguistics, historical linguistics, and their various
interfaces. We also welcome work situated in adjacent disciplines
across the cognitive and social sciences.
This year, we particularly encourage submissions that engage with the
following broad themes:
Sources of variability in speech perception and production
Queer and trans linguistics
Acquisition of form-function mappings
Formal architectures of syntax, and cross-linguistic syntactic
variation
Syntactic interfaces with semantics and prosody
The semantics of measurement and comparison
Neural and cognitive bases of linguistic composition
