Submission Deadline: 01-Dec-2026
The organising committee of ESSV 2027 warmly invites researchers,
students, and professionals from academia and industry to submit
contributions to the 38th Conference on Electronic Speech Signal
Processing (ESSV), taking place at the University of Southern Denmark
(SDU) in Sønderborg, from 17 to 19 March 2027.
ESSV is an established annual conference bringing together researchers
and practitioners working on spoken language, speech technology, and
interdisciplinary aspects of human communication. It combines
scientific exchange with a particularly open, collegial atmosphere and
welcomes both established research and promising new ideas.
Topics of Interest:
We welcome contributions covering a broad range of topics, including:
- Speech recognition, speech understanding, and speech synthesis
- Spoken dialogue systems and multimodal human–machine interaction
- Phonetics, prosody, articulation, and paralinguistics
- Voice, speaker characteristics, speech quality, and acoustic
analysis
- Artificial intelligence and machine learning for speech processing
- Speech enhancement and communication in challenging acoustic
environments
- Cognitive and neural foundations of speech and language
- Speech technology in medical, rehabilitation, industrial, and
everyday applications
Related topics, theoretical contributions, innovative methodologies,
new corpora and instruments, work in progress, and Show & Tell
demonstrations are equally welcome.
>From a Two-Page Abstract to a Full, Open-Access Publication
ESSV offers authors the opportunity to develop a short initial
submission into a substantial, peer-reviewed conference contribution,
published as a full paper of up to eight pages.
The publication process consists of two stages:
Stage 1 – Extended abstract submission (maximum 2 pages)
Authors initially submit a two-page extended abstract in German or
English, using the established ESSV template (unchanged from previous
years).
The abstract should normally include Background, Methods, Results, and
Conclusions, providing sufficient information to understand the
research question, approach, findings, and implications.
The distribution of content across the two pages is flexible. Figures,
tables, and references may be included, and preliminary results are
explicitly welcome. For contributions introducing new corpora, tools,
or methods, appropriate adjustments to the section structure are
possible.
Submissions are evaluated by scientific reviewers, with an emphasis on
constructive feedback and the further development of promising
research.
Stage 2 – Full conference paper (up to 8 pages)
Following acceptance of their extended abstracts, authors are invited
to prepare a full manuscript using the official ESSV author templates
(Word or LaTeX).
The eight-page format provides considerable room for scientific
detail, typically accommodating approximately 3,000–4,000 words
depending on the number and size of figures, tables, and references.
This allows authors to present a comprehensive account of their
theoretical background, methodology, empirical results, discussion,
and conclusions – substantially more than is possible in the
short-paper formats of many larger conferences.
Publication and Visibility:
Accepted contributions are published in the established proceedings
series *Studientexte zur Sprachkommunikation* (TUDpress), with an
ISBN, and are also made **freely accessible online through the ESSV
publication archive**.
Previous conference papers, including the complete list of
contributions to ESSV 2026, can be explored here:
https://www.essv.de/?year=2026
ESSV therefore provides an attractive opportunity to combine
scientific feedback, an in-person conference presentation, and a
substantial, publicly accessible research publication.
Important Dates:
- 1 December 2026, 23:59 Anywhere on Earth (AoE) – Extended abstract
submission deadline
- 18 December 2026 – Notification of acceptance
- 15 January 2027 – Registration opens
- 31 January 2027, 23:59 AoE – Full-paper submission deadline
- 14 February 2027 – Early-bird registration deadline
- 17–19 March 2027 – ESSV 2027, Sønderborg
The abstract submission deadline is firm. Extensions may be considered
in justified individual cases upon prior request, but no general
deadline extension is planned.
Submission and Further Information:
Please submit your two-page extended abstract as a PDF to:
essv2027 at essv.de
Please indicate your preferred presentation format: oral presentation,
poster, or Show & Tell demonstration.
Abstract and full-paper templates, detailed guidelines, and additional
information are available at:
https://www.essv.de/essv2027/abstracts.html
Conference website: https://www.essv.de/essv2027/
The conference welcomes contributions and presentations in German and
English. A Best Student Paper Award is also planned.
We look forward to welcoming researchers from across disciplines and
countries to Sønderborg – for three days of inspiring talks,
interesting demonstrations, stimulating discussions, and scientific
exchange in the welcoming atmosphere of a waterfront university
campus.
