Journal: Didacticae. Journal of Research in Specific Didactics
Issue: Multiliteracies, Multimodality and Generative Artificial
Intelligence in Language Teaching: New Ways of Teaching, Learning and
Building Knowledge
Call Deadline: 31-Mar-2027

Coordination of the monographic section
Agustín Reyes-Torres (Universitat de València), Eduardo España Palop
(Universitat de València) and María Dolores López Navas (Universidad
Rey Juan Carlos)
1. Presentation and justification
The digital transformation of the 21st century has introduced profound
changes in the ways of communicating, representing and producing
knowledge. The presence of hypertextual, visual and virtual
environments requires that research in language didactics go beyond
approaches focused on the single or monomodal verbal text. In this
scenario, applied didactics must offer pedagogical responses that
recognize and integrate the diversity of modes of expression of
contemporary students.
This monographic section invites the research community to present
contributions that analyze how the Pedagogy of Multiliteracies and
multimodal approaches are transforming the teaching and learning of
languages, with special attention to the processes of knowledge
construction and design and redesign of meanings, as well as to the
opportunities and tensions introduced by generative artificial
intelligence (AI): issues of authorship, agency, teacher mediation,
evaluation and technological dependence.
The proposal is based on the trajectory of the educational innovation
project MLT3 (Multimodality, multiliteracy and multilingualism) of the
University of Valencia, and is open to national and international
contributions that address the relationship between multiliteracies,
multimodality, multilingualism and generative AI from different
educational perspectives.
2. Thematic axes and lines of research
Unpublished manuscripts are invited to address, among others, the
following lines of work:
2.1. Multiliteracies, multimodality and knowledge construction:
research on how the Pedagogy of multiliteracies and multimodal
approaches, including Learning by Design, favour the construction of
knowledge, the design and redesign of meanings, and the participation
of students in language teaching.
2.2. Generative artificial intelligence and new literacy practices:
didactic proposals and empirical studies on the critical and
pedagogically grounded integration of generative AI in the design and
redesign of educational resources, and on the transformations it
introduces in reading, writing and multimodal production practices.
2.3. Multilingualism, translingual practices and inclusion: research
on how multimodal, multilingual and translingual practices expand
participation and the construction of meaning in the classroom, and
favor processes of inclusion and equity.
2.4. Teacher training, evaluation and transfer: studies on the
incorporation of multiliteracies, multimodality and generative AI in
initial and continuing teacher training, and on the instruments and
strategies to evaluate multimodal and plurilingual processes and
productions.
3. Types of contributions
In line with Didacticae's editorial policies, the following work
modalities are accepted:
3.1. Empirical research articles: Quantitative, qualitative or
mixed-design studies with rigorous methodological foundation.
3.2. Works on history and epistemology: Systematic reviews of the
literature, theoretical essays and epistemological analyses on
multiple literacies, multimodality or generative AI.
3.3. Innovations and didactic experiences: Pedagogical proposals that
are based, documented and evaluated in real classrooms of different
educational stages.
Papers must be original and must not have been previously published or
under consideration for publication elsewhere while being evaluated
for this journal (unless an adequate explanation is provided to the
comments section to the editor).
4. Guidelines for authors and submissions
4.1. Publication languages: Manuscripts written in Spanish, Catalan or
English will be accepted.
4.2. Format and guidelines: Manuscripts must be adapted to the rules
of style, citation (APA 7th ed.) and official template of the journal
Didacticae.
Template in English:

Template in Catalan:

4.3. Submission procedure: Articles must be submitted through the
journal's OJS platform
(https://revistes.ub.edu/index.php/didacticae/about/submissions). In
the submission process, the option "Monographic section" must be
selected.
4.4. Evaluation: All works will be submitted to an anonymous
double-blind peer review process.
In the event that the number of manuscripts accepted exceeds the
maximum assigned for the monographic section, the journal reserves the
right to include them in subsequent issues.
5. Timeline
Deadline for submission: March 31, 2027
Publication: December 2027
6. Contact and Inquiries
For inquiries about the thematic framework or the adequacy of
proposals to the monographic section, you can contact the coordination

NB: This call for contributions is open to speakers participating in

opportunity for publication. However, its coordination and management
are independent of the Congress Organizing Committee.
