We are delighted to announce the call for abstract submissions for the
40th Annual Conference on Human Sentence Processing, to be held at
Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana on May 20-22, 2027.
The special theme for HSP 2027 is Cognitive mechanisms of syntactic
change throughout the lifespan. We invite submissions that examine how
and why syntactic representations develop and change across the
lifespan. Relevant topics may include age-related cognitive
development in children and adults, changes in linguistic input
characteristics (e.g. adapting to a new multilingual context), and
changes resulting from experiment participation, written language
exposure, classroom instruction, or clinical interventions.
We welcome abstracts related to the special theme as well as
submissions related to all areas of human sentence processing.
Invited speakers and their preliminary talk titles:
 - Shanley Allen, RPTU University Kaiserslautern-Landau, “Changes in
syntactic representation driven by development and context: Insights
from child and adult bilinguals”
 - Carrie Jackson, Pennsylvania State University, “How priming and
prediction can (but don't always) support second-language learning”
 - Jiyeon Lee, Purdue University, “Syntactic learning and recovery in
aphasia”
 - Evie Malaia, University of Alabama, “Built early, kept late: Age of
acquisition, aging, and the neural timescales of prediction in sign
languages”
 - Maria Polinsky, University of Maryland
Abstracts may be submitted for either poster or podium presentations.
Presentations will be in person, but we plan to have a livestream
available for remote participants to attend the talks.
Submission Portal:
Please submit your abstract via Oxford Abstracts.
