New Developments in Academic and Professional Cultures in English for
Specific Purposes (ESP)
https://journals.uni-lj.si/scriptamanent/announcement/view/173
Theme and Scope:
English for Specific Purposes (ESP) engages with disciplinary and
professional cultures and imbricates questions of discourse, skills,
technology and frameworks. The relationship between discourse and
culture is complex: just as culture informs specialized languages,
language contributes to the construction of professional cultures,
practices and identities. These dynamics also extend to the
relationship between academic and professional settings, where
changing workplace expectations have driven universities to align more
closely with market needs through extended internships and rethink the
theory-practice divide.
Scripta Manent invites contributions from scholars working in ESP. We
welcome studies on the relationship between discourse and culture in
evolving digital environments and technological contexts. We invite
reflection on how professional and disciplinary cultures are studied
and taught through ethnography, intercultural rhetoric, sociological
and discursive approaches, or through the prism of enculturation and
professional socialization. We are also interested in contributions
exploring how contemporary and emerging processes are reshaping
cultural competencies across diverse fields.
The topics can address (but are not limited to):
 - professional pedagogies in ESP courses;
 - evolutions in questions of specialised discourses;
 - imbrication of professional and academic cultures and needs;
 - AI transformations in both academic and professional landscapes;
 - present and future literacies, skills, technologies and frameworks
in ESP;
 - emerging specificities within disciplinary cultures;
 - how different professional and academic cultures integrate
sustainability and sustainable practices for a socio-ecological
transition;
 - cultures of corporate professional responsibility;
 - soft skills and comparative approaches across cultures;
 - cultural competencies in a changing world.
