Materialities, Power Plays and Social Emancipation
Call Deadline: 09-Nov-2026
Revista da Abralin (ISSN 0102-7158), the journal of the Brazilian
Linguistics Association (ABRALIN), invites submissions for the
thematic dossier "Discourse Analysis and GAI: new materialities, power
plays and social emancipation", to be published in Volume 26 (2027).
Organizers:
Jane Quintiliano Guimarães Silva (Pontifical Catholic University of
Minas Gerais – PUC Minas, Brazil)
Johannes Angermuller (Open University, UK)
Márcio Rogério de Oliveira Cano (Federal University of Lavras – UFLA,
Brazil)
In recent years, the various strands of Discourse Analysis (DA) have
sought to establish their space and contribution to thinking about
generative artificial intelligence (GAI). This dossier welcomes
theoretical and empirical studies addressing, among other topics:
- the place and scope of DA in this endeavor;
- the revision of its theoretical and analytical frameworks for
understanding new digital materialities and discursivities;
- forms of subjectivation emerging with and through this new language
technology;
- discursive memory in relation to technical memory (fostered by vast
databases) and its implications;
- the history and historicity of discourses actualized under the
injunction of such technology;
- shifts in notions such as authorship, reader, reading, text, writing
and memory;
- power relations, ideology and the political and economic impact of
Big Tech;
- the practices and effects of GAI in education.
The dossier seeks to deepen the epistemological debate, consolidate
theoretical and analytical frameworks capable of supporting a critical
engagement with GAI, and bring to light the opacity surrounding
discourses about and produced through generative AI, contributing both
to scientific knowledge and to society at large.
Submission deadline: November 9, 2026
Manuscripts in English are especially welcome; the journal also
accepts submissions in Portuguese and other languages (see
guidelines). Revista da Abralin is an open access journal that does
not charge any fees for submission or publication, and adopts open
peer review, in line with Open Science practices: reviews are
published alongside accepted articles. Manuscripts must follow the
journal's author guidelines and template and must be deposited in a
preprint server before submission.
