Call for Papers:
We’re excited to open the call for papers for the 8th Laughter and
Non-Verbal Vocalisations Workshop (LW2027), which will take place on
April 2nd and 3rd 2027 in Saarbrücken.
We welcome submission of extended abstracts (2 pages for text + 1 for
references and figures) of completed studies and/or substantial
work-in-progress in any of the areas outlined in the workshop
description.
Themes:
Research themes include, but are not restricted to, these aspects
pertaining to the production and perception of laughter and other
non-verbal vocalisations in both spoken and signed languages:
 - Articulation, acoustics and perception
 - Gesture, sign, facial expressions and other bodily behaviour
 - Interaction and pragmatics
 - Affective and evaluative meanings
 - Social perception and organisation
 - Disfluency
 - Technology applications
Submissions in previous editions have included work on Conversation
Analysis, Discourse Analysis, Pragmatics, Psycholinguistics,
Phonetics, Gesture Studies, Computer Science, Human-Robot and
Human-Machine Interaction, Forensic Speech Science, Psychology,
Sociolinguistics, L2 Learning, Health and Clinical applications.
Important Dates:
Call for paper opens: September 1st 2026
Submission deadline: November 23rd 2026
Notification of outcomes: January 18th 2027
Camera-ready versions: February 22nd 2027
Requirements:
The extension of the abstract should be of 3 pages maximum: two pages
of text, plus one page for figures, link to supplementary materials,
declarations, and references. Submissions longer than this will be
sent back to the authors for amendment.
Submissions should be in PDF format, and anonymised.
If applicable, please declare any use of generative AI. Give the name
and version of the tool used and state explicitly what it was used
for. We expect authors to take full responsibility of the intellectual
content and accuracy of the paper.
Submissions must be uploaded to the Microsoft CMT system. Authors will
need to create a free account in the system in order to upload the
files and access the revisions. We advise that all authors sign up to
CMT in order to facilitate communication with all presenters.
Accepted submissions will be published in a book of proceedings.
