This conference aims to foster academic exchange in formal semantics
between the National Institute for Japanese Language and Linguistics
and the Institute of Linguistics, Academia Sinica, with the broader
goal of promoting collaboration and scholarly dialogue among
researchers in Japan and Taiwan in theoretical linguistics,
particularly cross-linguistic research on East Asian languages. Under
the theme Functional Particles: Scalarity, Stance, and Discourse
Dynamics, the program features work on Japanese, Okinoerabu Ryukyuan,
Mandarin, and Atayal. Scholars and students from around the world are
warmly invited to attend and participate in the discussions.
Registration is free and open until October 31, 2026.
