The University of Pisa Language Centre (CLI), in collaboration with
the Italian Association of University Language Centres (AICLU), is
pleased to announce the conference “Culture – Languages – Inclusion”,
to be held in Pisa on 27–28 May 2027. The conference will also host
the 30th AICLU Seminar.
The conference focuses on the intersections of culture, language
education and inclusion, with particular attention to intercultural
and linguistic mediation, multilingualism, innovation in second and
foreign language teaching, digital technologies and AI, and linguistic
accessibility and inclusive language education in university and other
educational contexts.
The conference will bring together researchers, lecturers and language
professionals to discuss the changing role of university language
centres in a context shaped by internationalisation, student mobility,
digital technologies and artificial intelligence, and the growing
importance of accessibility and inclusive participation. It aims to
foster exchange on current practices, models and perspectives in
language education, intercultural mediation and inclusion.
Contributions are invited in three main thematic areas:
1. Culture and Language Mediation
Keynote Speaker: Christian Fandrych, University of Leipzig
Topics include multilingualism and multicultural identities,
multilingual education, pluralistic approaches to languages and
cultures, intercultural competence, linguistic and cultural mediation,
international mobility, AI and language mediation, translation and
interpreting in educational contexts, and EMI.
2. Languages: Innovation in Second Language Teaching
Keynote Speaker: Fanny Meunier, UC Louvain / Circle U – European
University Alliance
Topics include innovative digital teaching materials, generative AI
and language corpora, gamification, podcasts and MOOCs, learner
autonomy, blended and online learning, language learning in academic
contexts, and the integration of formal, non-formal and informal
learning.
3. Inclusion and Linguistic Accessibility
Keynote Speaker: Michele Daloiso, University of Parma
Topics include support for students with SLD and other special
educational needs, accessible teaching materials and digital
platforms, Italian Sign Language (LIS), assistive technologies and AI,
Universal Design for Learning, inclusive assessment and certification,
language support for international students and refugees, and
inclusive and accessible institutional communication.
The conference welcomes theoretical, methodological and empirical
contributions, as well as presentations of good practice. Papers will
be allocated 15 minutes for presentation, followed by 5 minutes of
discussion.
Proposals should include the title, selected thematic area, an
abstract of approximately 300 words, references, 3–5 keywords, and a
brief biographical note. Proposals should be submitted to
aiclu2027 at cli.unipi.it by 30 September 2026. Notification of
acceptance will be sent by 30 October 2026.
Conference languages: Italian and English. However, contributions can
focus on the learning and teaching of any modern language.
