Subject: Call for Special Issue Proposals: Studies in Second Language Acquisition


Studies in Second Language Acquisition (SSLA) is now entertaining
proposals for the thematic issue of Volume 50:3, to be published in
summer 2028. Thematic issues of SSLA focus on areas of current
interest and are an excellent venue to bring together in one issue
numerous approaches to a problem or methodology in the field of SLA.
For special issue examples, see previous special volumes of SSLA. For

A proposal should include three parts:
1. Title of thematic issue, guest editors’ names, affiliations, and
email addresses
2. A rationale for the thematic issue of up to two single-spaced pages
plus references
3. Tentative titles, abstracts (~200 words each), and author
information (including names and affiliations) of the manuscripts that
the editor intends or expects to include. Proposals can also include a
list of possible topics and/or names of authors that may be invited to
contribute. Guest editors are also welcome and encouraged to include
an open call for abstracts for one or more papers in the issue. An
open call, if planned, would take place after the special issue is
approved
Note that the articles in a special issue can belong to any of the
article types published in SSLA. These include: Research Article,
Critical Commentary, Research Report, Replication Studies, Methods
Forum, Data Report, Registered Report, Systematic Review, and
Editorial. Finally, please state any plans to integrate open science
practices into the issue (e.g., open materials, preregistration,
replication, data re-analysis)
All manuscript and production deadlines are as follows:
January 8, 2027         Proposals due by email to
ssla.journal at gmail.com
February 19, 2027       Final decision reached
June 21, 2027           Submission of first-draft manuscripts to SSLA
via ScholarOne
January 14, 2028                All final manuscripts due, submitted
via ScholarOne
