Call for Papers:
This is a second call for papers for the 4th International Conference
on Tone and Intonation (TAI 2027), which will be held in Hong Kong at
The Chinese University of Hong Kong on 27-29 May 2027. With the
generous support of the Faculty of Arts and the Department of
Linguistics and Modern Languages at The Chinese University of Hong
Kong, we are happy to announce that the conference will charge NO
REGISTRATION FEES to attend (attendees still need to take care of
their own travel and accommodation).
The TAI conference originated from the International Symposium on
Tonal Aspects of Languages (TAL) and the Conference on Tone and
Intonation in Europe (TIE). TAI 2027 aims to provide an
interdisciplinary forum for distinguished scholars, experts, and
practitioners to exchange ideas and discuss the latest advances in the
study of tone and intonation. The conference proceedings will be
archived by the International Speech Communication Association (ISCA).
The special theme of TAI 2027, "Universality and Specificity of Tone
and Intonation Systems," addresses a central question in prosodic
research: Which aspects of tone and intonation are shared across
languages (universal), and which are shaped by particular linguistic,
cultural, social, or communicative factors (specific)? We invite
submissions that explore phonetic, phonological, typological,
psycholinguistic, neurolinguistic, sociolinguistic, computational, and
technological aspects of tone and intonation from cross-linguistic and
interdisciplinary perspectives. We particularly encourage
contributions that investigate both universal tendencies and
language-specific realizations in tone and intonation systems,
including studies examining variation across languages, generations,
dialects, regions, social groups, and bilingual or multilingual
contexts.
We are very honoured to welcome three keynote speakers and two invited
speakers at TAI 2027:

- Keynote Speaker: Aoju Chen (Utrecht University)
- Keynote Speaker: Pilar Prieto Vives (ICREA-Universitat Pompeu Fabra)
- Invited Speaker: Menghui Shi (Fudan University)
- Invited Speaker: Ping Tang (Nanjing University of Science &
Technology)

- Abstract submission opens: 12 October 2026
- Abstract submission deadline: 6 December 2026 (Anywhere on Earth)
- Notification of acceptance: 15 February 2027

the opportunity to submit a 5-page comprehensive paper for inclusion
