Description:
Position Description:
The Department of Speech, Language, and Hearing at The University of
Texas at Dallas (UT Dallas) seeks to fill a tenure-track, Assistant
Professor position. Applications are invited from across the speech,
language, and hearing disciplines. Successful applicants will have
expertise in the use, development, or application of artificial
intelligence (AI) driven tools to advance the understanding of speech,
language, and/or hearing processes. Priority areas include the
development and application of AI driven tools to study typical and
atypical speech, language, and hearing processes and their
development; early detection and identification of communication
disorders across the lifespan; innovative new devices and technologies
that improve the efficiency, accessibility, or effectiveness of
patient care; and/or virtual reality programs that enhance clinical
education and clinical learning outcomes. The position requires an
active research program with publications in peer-reviewed journals,
current or clear potential for extramural funding, and excellence in
teaching and service within the UT Dallas and professional
communities. Faculty members teach undergraduate and graduate level
courses within their discipline and area of expertise. Cross-listing
of undergraduate and graduate seminars facilitates multi-disciplinary
student education. Clinical credentials are not required.
The appointment commences for the fall 2027 semester.
Qualifications:
Minimum Education and Experience: A PhD or equivalent in Speech,
Language, and Hearing Science or a related discipline (Communication
Science, Cognitive Science, Neuroscience, Psychology, Computer
Science) is required prior to employment. Candidates are expected to
demonstrate the ability to work effectively in a highly collaborative,
engaging, and dynamic environment comprised of individuals with a
range of backgrounds, skills, and perspectives. We are seeking
candidates able to produce research and scholarly or creative
achievements that enhance the program and the discipline, and able to
deliver high quality teaching using evidence-based practices to
effectively engage students from a range of backgrounds and
experiences.
Preferred Education and Experience: Postdoctoral experience is
preferred. Candidates with a strong publication portfolio appropriate
for their career stage are preferred; candidates with a history of and
clear potential for future extramural funding are preferred.
Successful applicants will have expertise in the use, development, or
application of artificial intelligence (AI) driven tools in
understanding typical and atypical speech, language, and hearing
processes and development and/or innovations that enhance efficiency,
accessibility, or effectiveness of patient care and related clinical
education efforts.
UT Dallas School of Behavioral and Brain Sciences and the Department
of Speech, Language, and Hearing

The Department of Speech, Language, and Hearing is one of three
departments within BBS. It is home to a dynamic, collaborative
research community that houses the nation’s #1 public Doctor of
Audiology program (tied) and #10 MS in Speech-Language Pathology
program (tied), based on 2026 U.S. News & World Report rankings.
Faculty members actively engage in research and clinical practice at
the Callier Center for Communication Disorders, advancing patient care
and research at its two Dallas-Fort Worth locations. The department
includes 35 faculty members and approximately 450 students.
The department offers the BS in Speech, Language, and Hearing
Sciences, the MS in Speech-Language Pathology, the PhD in Speech,
Language, and Hearing Sciences, and the AuD in Audiology.
Additional opportunities for vibrant interdisciplinary collaborations
are available with UT Dallas Centers including the Center for Vital
Longevity, the Center for Children and Families, the Texas Biomedical
Device Center, the Center for Advanced Pain Studies, and the
Psychological Services and Education Center. BBS faculty also have
vigorous collaborations with the UT Dallas Bioengineering and
Electrical Engineering programs, the UT Southwestern Medical Center,
and Baylor University Medical Center.
The UT Dallas Clinical and Translational Research Center, led and
directed under BBS, provides comprehensive support for clinical
research including regulatory support, administrative staffing, and
access to core facilities. Clinical and translational research
programs are additionally facilitated by the UT Dallas Sammons
BrainHealth Imaging Center.
