Submission Deadline: 30-Sep-2026
Across generations, communities have developed languages that carry
histories, worldviews, ecological knowledge, social practices, and
ways of relating to the natural world. Yet processes of language
shift, cultural change, environmental transformation, and the
weakening of intergenerational transmission increasingly challenge the
continuity of this knowledge. In this context, language revitalization
and the renewal of cultural and ecological knowledge are not only
matters of linguistic or cultural preservation, but also of sustaining
the diversity and resilience of communities and their environments.
ICLEC 2026 therefore invites reflection on the processes through which
knowledge is transmitted, transformed, and renewed across generations.
It seeks to explore the roles of communities, education, language
revitalization, Indigenous knowledge systems, cultural institutions,
research, and technology in sustaining biocultural diversity in a
rapidly changing world.
While the conference places particular emphasis on the experiences,
knowledge systems, and emerging challenges of North East India, its
scope is not geographically limited to the region. Contributions from
other parts of India and from across the world are welcome,
particularly those that offer comparative perspectives, share
community-based experiences, present innovative approaches, or
contribute to broader conversations on language, ecology, culture, and
intergenerational knowledge transmission. The conference seeks to
create a space where regional experiences can enter into dialogue with
diverse perspectives from India and the wider world.
