"UNIVERSAUX SONORES" / "SOUND UNIVERSALS"

*THEMES / TOPICS

Comme lors des premieres journees, nous avons choisi un objet central
susceptible d'interesser simultanement plusieurs champs de recherche,
afin de permettre des echanges entre specialistes de differents
domaines.

Le sujet propose (les universaux), qui a donne lieu deja a des
colloques et journees de reflexion recemment en France, concernera ici
les objets sonores (segments, syllabes, prosodie etc) et s'articulera
autour des questions suivantes.

Comment peut-on penser actuellement les rapports entre forme et
substance, cette dichotomie est-elle pertinente aujourd'hui ?

Avons-nous besoin d'avoir recours a la notion d'universaux, et dans
l'affirmative, comment la definir, pour construire une grammaire
cognitivement plausible ?

Comment s'articule la question des universaux sonores sur le probleme
plus
general de l'existence d'universaux cognitifs . En d'autres termes, si
nous avons recours a une telle notion, avec quel degre de specificite
avons-nous a concevoir les universaux ?

The topic we propose to discuss "Universals", (which has already been
the centre of interest of conferences and workshops recently in
France), has been thought in terms of "sound objects" (segments,
syllables, prosody, etc.) and will turn around the following questions :

- In what way can we think of the links between shape and substance ;
is the dichotomy relevant nowadays ?

- Do we really need this notion of "universals", and if we do, in what
way could we define it in order to build a grammar that would be
plausible from a cognitive point of view ?

- How is the question of sound universals linked with the more general
problem of the existence of cognitive universals ? In other words, if
we use such a notion, with what degrees of specificity can we think of
universals ?

 We have thus chosen a central topic that will no doubt be of interest
in many research fields and allow exchanges between specialists in
different spheres.

* SOUMMISSION DES COMMUNICATIONS / SUBMISSION OF COMMUNICATIONS

Une synthese de l'article final, comportant 3 pages A4 (times 12) en
trois
exemplaires, accompagnee de vos coordonnees sur papier libre, redige en
francais ou en anglais doit etre envoyee au secretariat par courrier
postal
ou courrier electronique. L'article final aura au maximum 8 pages
(dessins
et bibliographie compris).

Send three copies of the synthesis of your final paper (3 pages A4,
times
12) with your postal adress in a separate page, written in English or in

French, to the organising committee, by post or e-mail. The final paper
should be of 8 pages long (including references and figures)

Les langues officielles de ces journees seront l'anglais et le francais
The working languages will be English and French

* FRAIS D'INSCRIPTION / REGISTRATION FEES
Participants: 500 F
Communicants: 450 F
etudiants: 200 F
Les frais d'inscription comprennent les actes du colloque et les pauses
cafe.
Une possibilite de prendre les repas de midi sur place les 21, 22 et 23
sera
offerte.

Registration fees include Acts of the workshop and coffee-pauses.
It will be possible to have lunch on the campus on the 21 th, 22th and
23th.
