******************APOLOGIES FOR MULTIPLE POSTINGS************************

International Workshop on Visual Analytics of the Evolution and
Diffusion of Scientific Knowledge
http://www.instac.es/inscit2006/workshops.htm#chen

Mérida, Spain, October 26, 2006

In "International Conference on Multidisciplinary Information Sciences
and Technologies, InSciT2006"

http://www.instac.es/inscit2006/index.html

** Organizer
Chaomei Chen, Drexel University, USA
Email: chaomei.chen at cis.drexel.edu

** Important Dates:
Abstract Submission: May 15th
Full paper Submission: June 30th

** Motivations

Keeping abreast the advances of science and technology poses a variety
of challenges for scientists and practitioners. Understanding the
dynamics and complexity of large-scale scientific and technological
information intuitively and accurately requires persistent and
integrative multidisciplinary and multi-perspective efforts.

 ** Description

The goal of the workshop is to bring together researchers and
practitioners from different but potentially interrelated research
arenas to identify theoretical and practical challenges and the
potential of enabling techniques and promising approaches to advancing
our ability to understand and keep track of the big picture of science
and technology. Our ultimate goal is to meet identified challenges
with easy to understand and easy to communicate visual analytics
tools. We invite contributions from a number of relevant research
areas to develop a joint research agenda and promote a wide range of
exemplars for further studies.

** Target Audience

Researchers and practitioners who are interested in structural,
temporal, and semantic dynamics of science and technology in general
and any of the topics of interest listed below should participate and
contribute to the workshop. Researchers in topic detection and
tracking, social network analysis, text mining, natural language
processing, information visualization and visual analytics are
particularly welcome. We also extend our invitation to innovative
contributions from other areas.

** Topics of Interest

Science and technology indicators
Quantitative studies of science and technology
Structural and temporal dynamics of science and technology
Social networks in science and technology
Topic detection and tracking
Text mining and natural language processing
Geospatial studies of information diffusion
Progressive knowledge domain visualization
Visual analytics in science and technology
Network analysis and link analysis
Bibliometrics, informetrics, and webometrics
Trends in science and technology

** Submission

Submissions should be made as follows. A two-page extended abstract
should be submitted to the workshop committee for review. Authors of
accepted abstracts will be invited for a full submission for the
workshop.

** Publications

Best papers related to information visualization will be selected and
invited to contribute to a special issue of Information Visualization.
An edited volume containing all workshop papers is also being
considered.
