Dans le cadre d'un projet de recherche international, la Division
Recherche et Développement de France Télécom située à Lannion
(Bretagne, France) dispose d'un poste de post-doctorat dans le domaine
de la recherche d'informations en langage naturel.

Le sujet de recherche s'inscrit dans le contexte de la recherche
d'informations multimédia par interaction en langage naturel depuis un
téléphone mobile. Le moteur de recherche réalisé dans le cadre du
projet européen permettra de router la requête d'un utilisateur vers
un service spécialisé contenant une base de données accessible en
ligne, puis d'interroger cette base suite à une interaction en langage
naturel avec l'utilisateur, avant de préparer et présenter à
l'utilisateur. L'objectif du post-doctorat est de doter ce moteur de
capacités d'adaptation à l'utilisateur de manière à rendre
l'interaction plus efficace. Autrement dit, on souhaite rendre le
moteur de recherche capable d'adapter automatiquement et
progressivement ses réactions à chaque utilisateur, ou groupe
d'utilisateurs. Le candidat retenu effectuera dans un premier temps un
travail de réflexion et de recherche bibliographique sur les moyens de
personnalisation d'une méthode de recherche d'informations. Il
identifiera également les critères d'évaluation à optimiser dans ce
contexte. Parallèlement, il étudiera les possibilités techniques
d'adaptation des éléments trouvés à la technologie interne disponible
d'interrogation flexible, basée sur la sémantique, de bases de
connaissances. Il participera notamment à la conception d'un modèle de
l'utilisateur et à la construction d'une ontologie de la connaissance
sur un domaine spécialisé. Dans un second temps, le candidat
implémentera le résultat de ses recherches (travail sur des
algorithmes de gestion des connaissances, sur des mesures de distance
sémantique, etc) et conduira une évaluation qualitative et
quantitative rigoureuse de la personnalisation de la recherche.

- Thèse ou équivalent.
- Solides compétences en informatique (Java, C).
- Expérience dans le domaine des ontologies, de la gestion des
  connaissances, de la sémantique lexicale.
- Une expérience dans le domaine du dialogue homme-machine et/ou du
  traitement automatique des langues sera appréciée.
- Goût pour le travail en équipe.
- Bon niveau en anglais.

France Telecom's Research and Development Division, situated in
Lannion (Britanny, France) has opened a post-doctoral position to work
on natural language information retrieval, within an international
research project.

The research subject belongs to the field of multimedia information
retrieval via natural language interaction on a mobile phone. The
search engine produced within the European project will route each
user's request towards a dedicated service containing a database
accessible online. It will rely on natural language interaction with
the user to query the database, before selecting and presenting the
results of the query to the user. The objective of this post-doctorate
is to provide the search engine with capacities to adapt itself to the
user, to make the interaction more effective. In other words, the
search engine is expected to be able to automatically and
progressively adapt its reactions to each user, or group of users. In
a first time, the successful candidate will accomplish a reflection
and bibliographical work on the possible means to personalize a method
of information retrieval. This candidate will also identify the
evaluation criteria that should be optimized in that context. At the
same time, he/she will study the technical possibilities to adapt the
found elements to the available internal technology. This technology
is dedicated to semantic-based, flexible querying of knowledge
bases. The successful candidate will notably take part in the design
of a user model and to the construction of an ontology of a
specialised domain. In a second time, the results of this research
work will be implemented (work on knowledge management algorithms, on
semantic distance measures, etc). The process of personalization of
the retrieval will be thoroughly evaluated, both qualitatively and
quantitatively.

- PhD or equivalent.
- Very good programming skills (Java, C).
- Good working knowledge of ontologies, knowledge management and
  lexical semantics.
- Experience in human/machine dialogue and/or natural language
  processing will be appreciated.
- Taste for teamwork.
- Fluent in English, preferably good level in French.
