1 chercheur expérimenté (post-doc) et 1 jeune chercheur.

EXPRESSIVE est un projet de recherche collaboratif qui associe
l'Université catholique de Louvain (UCL, Belgique), les Facultés
polytechniques de Mons (FPMS, Belgique) et quatre partenaires
industriels (Alcatel, ITOptics, Acapela Group, Belga). L'objectif du
projet est d'améliorer un système de synthèse vocale du français en
ajoutant à la voix synthétique une nouvelle dimension d'expressivité
(Expressive Speech Synthesis). Le système combinera un système de
génération automatique du langage conçu pour cette tâche avec un
système de synthèse vocale capable de tenir compte d'instructions
représentant l'expressivité du message. Ces instructions seront
fournies par le système de génération automatique du langage et
fondées sur un modèle linguistique. Chaque équipe sera impliquée dans
une partie complémentaire du projet et apportera son expertise :
VALIBEL (UCL) se penchera sur les aspects prosodiques et phonétiques,
le CENTAL (UCL) sera en charge du système de génération automatique du
langage et TCTS (FPMS) travaillera sur le synthétiseur vocal. Les
partenaires industriels seront impliqués dans l'élaboration de
l'architecture globale et le développement d'applications commerciales
basées sur les résultats de la recherche. Ce projet de recherche
appliquée est financé par la Région Wallonne (DGTRE).
Afin de renforcer son équipe et de collaborer au projet EXPRESSIVE, le
CENTAL souhaite engager deux chercheurs.
1) Un post-doc (<= 24 mois). Le candidat idéal :
- a un doctorat en Linguistique computationnelle, Linguistique ou
Informatique (ou dans une discipline pertinente pour le projet) ;
- a de bonnes compétences en programmation ;
- est intéressé par le domaine de la génération automatique du langage
et a une expérience/des connaissances dans ce domaine ;
- parle français ;
- a de bonnes capacités de travail en équipe.
2) Un jeune chercheur (<= 24 mois). Le candidat idéal :
- a un master en Linguistique computationnelle, Linguistique ou
Informatique (ou dans une discipline pertinente pour le projet) ;
- a de bonnes compétences en programmation ;
- est intéressé par le domaine de la génération automatique du langage
et souhaite acquérir une expérience (supplémentaire) dans ce domaine
; - parle français ; - a de bonnes capacités de travail en équipe.
Les deux chercheurs seront impliqués dans la recherche liée à la
conception et au développement du système de génération automatique du
langage. Ils travailleront à l'Université catholique de Louvain, à
Louvain-la- Neuve (une ville moderne située à 30 km de Bruxelles). Ils
feront partie du CENTAL, une équipe de 12 personnes impliquée dans de
nombreux projets nationaux et internationaux. Ils bénéficieront de
l'infrastructure du laboratoire et d'un environnement de travail
stimulant où ils seront amenés à collaborer avec les chercheurs et
professeurs impliqués dans le projet ainsi qu'avec les partenaires
industriels.
La durée des contrats est de 24 mois. Démarrage en septembre/octobre
2007 (avec un peu de flexibilité).

CENTAL is recruiting:

EXPRESSIVE is a collaborative project between the Université
catholique de Louvain (UCL, Belgium), the Polytechnic University of
Mons (FPMS, Belgium) and four industrial partners (Alcatel, ITOptics,
Acapela Group, Belga). The objective is to investigate the
possibility of improving a Speech Synthesis System for French by
adding expressiveness to a synthetic voice (Expressive Speech
Synthesis). The system will combine a Natural Language Generation
(NLG) system tailored for the task and a speech synthesis engine
capable of interpreting "expressiveness instructions" provided by the
NLG system and based on a linguistic model. Each team will be involved
in a complementary part of the project: the VALIBEL team (UCL) will
investigate prosody/phonology issues, the CENTAL team will develop the
NLG system and the TCTS team (FMPS) will work on the voice engine. The
industrial partners will be involved in the design of the overall
architecture and the conception of industrial applications based on
the results of the research. This applied research project is funded
by the Government of the Walloon Region (DGTRE).
To strengthen the CENTAL research team (UCL) and collaborate on the
EXPRESSIVE project, we are recruiting two researchers.

Both researchers will be mainly involved in research and development
for the conception and construction of the NLG system. They will work
at the University of Louvain, in Louvain-la-Neuve, a nice modern city,
located 30 kilometers away from Brussels. He/she will be part of the
CENTAL team, a dynamic research team of 12 people, involved in various
regional, national and international research projects in Natural
Language Processing. He/she will benefit from the lab infrastructure
and from a stimulating environment. He/she will work and stay in close
contact with other researchers and professors of the lab as well as
with the other organisations involved in the project.
Duration of the contract: up to 24 months
Starting date: Sept./Oct. 2007 (with some flexibility)
