Organisation des connaissances et Web 2.0. : de l’organisation
hiérarchique centralisée à l’organisation sociale distribuée

Description et objectifs

De tout temps, l’homme a voulu organiser son environnement, condition
essentielle à ses apprentissages et à son évolution, sinon à sa
survie. D’abord limité à l’organisation d’objets et de phénomènes
physiques, le processus, sous forme de catégorisation et de
classification, est rapidement devenu essentiel également dans le
monde des idées et des connaissances. Les systèmes philosophiques
d’organisation des connaissances ont à leur tour inspiré des
structures de classification bibliographique pour organiser
l’information et les documents générés par la réflexion et la
recherche.

En sciences de l’information plus généralement, en bibliothéconomie,
en archivistique et en muséologie plus précisément, la place du
processus d’organisation n’est jamais remise en question. Mais
l’environnement informationnel et documentaire au sein duquel
l’organisation s’impose change à une vitesse vertigineuse. L’évolution
des besoins, des attentes et des comportements des chercheurs
d’information, la puissance technologique permettant l’implantation de
moteurs de recherche de plus en plus performants, le traitement
distribué et la conception de systèmes d’organisation interactifs,
dynamiques et personnalisés, commandent le réexamen et un réajustement
des objectifs, des procédures et des outils traditionnels de
l’organisation des connaissances. Les progrès technologiques induits
par le Web. 2.0. ont contribué à accentuer les mutations
sociotechniques et t modifié les pratiques cultuelles et
informationnelles. 

Ce numéro thématique des Cahiers du numérique consacré à
l’organisation des connaissances tente de rendre compte des modèles
d’organisation des connaissances, classiques ou novateurs et examine
la pertinence des couples d’opposition fréquemment utilisés :
organisation verticale/horizontale; libre/contrôlée; passive/active;
hiérarchique/distribuée; professionnelle/ sociale, et vise à proposer
des éléments de réponse à trois questions fondamentales. 

1. D’où venons-nous ? On ne peut répondre à cette question sans
   rappeler la tradition, l’histoire, les objectifs fondamentaux et
   les bases théoriques de l’organisation.

2. Où en sommes-nous ? Pour répondre à cette question d’actualité, il
   faut se tourner vers des comptes rendus d’expériences menées depuis
   le début du 21e siècle, en apprendre davantage sur les applications
   conceptuelles et technologiques contemporaines, considérer des
   propositions d’amendements théoriques.

3. Où allons-nous ? La troisième question ouvre une porte sur l’avenir
   immédiat et un peu plus lointain et sur des hypothèses qui restent
   à vérifier. Sous l’influence de réseaux sociaux et participatifs en
   expansion, assisterons-nous à la désuétude de tout processus
   d’organisation systématique des connaissances et de l’information
   tel que mené depuis des générations? Saurons-nous au contraire
   tirer profit de la tradition et de la systématisation pour créer
   des modes et des outils d’organisation capables de s’ajuster aux
   besoins en constante évolution et à un environnement technologique
   de plus en plus imposant ?

Les auteurs sont invités à soumettre des textes portant sur l’une ou
plusieurs des thématiques suivantes (liste non-exhaustive) :

La théorie de la catégorisation
La théorie de la classification
La classification documentaire et ses usages en environnement réseauté
La catégorisation et la classification automatiques
Facettes et organisation des connaissances
Structures et relations dans l’organisation des connaissances 
Langues et cultures et leur impact sur l’organisation des
connaissances
Les paradigmes d’organisation des connaissances (cognitif, sémiotique,
linguistique et calculatoire)
Les classifications sociales et collaboratives 
Systèmes et dispositifs d’organisation des connaissances et leur
interopérabilité

Recommandation aux auteurs
Les soumissions doivent être expédiées simultanément à Widad Mustafa
El Hadi et à Michèle Hudon (voir coordonnées ci-dessous)

Les contributions doivent respecter la feuille de style de la revue
disponible sur le serveur http://lcn.revuesonline.com (ou sur demande
à : lcn at lavoisier.fr). 

Les articles ne doivent pas dépasser 20‐30 pages. Ils peuvent être
soumis en français ou en anglais (pour les auteurs non-francophones
seulement).

Les soumissions doivent être envoyées sous forme de fichiers word ou
RTF (voir ci-joint consignes aux auteurs)

Les versions finales seront acceptées sous format word (.doc ou .docx)
de préférence, ou PDF. Dans ce dernier cas, les corrections
ortho-typographiques seront faites par les auteurs à la demande de
l’éditeur.

 Knowledge Organization and Web. 2.0: from a centralized and
 hierarchical organization to a social and distributed organisation

Presentation

Man has always tried to organize his environment, an essential
condition for his understanding of the world and perhaps even for his
own survival. This organizing process, using categories and
classification limited at the beginning to organizing objects and
natural phenomena, quickly became essential also for organizing ideas
and knowledge. Philosophical systems of knowledge organization have in
turn inspired bibliographical classificatory structures for organizing
documents and information created by reflective thought and research.

In information science more generally, and in archive, library science
and museology more specifically, the importance of organizing
processes is never questioned in spite of the fact that the
information and documentation environment, within which this
organization is carried out, is changing very rapidly. The evolution
of users’ information needs, expectations and behaviour, the powerful
technology which has allowed for the building of high-performance
search engines, the design of interactive, dynamic and user-friendly
organizing tools all call for the re-examination and adjustment of
goals, procedures and tools. More recently, technological progress
resulting from Web. 2.0. has contributed to the enhancement of
socio-technical and cultural usages.  

This thematic issue of Les Cahiers du Numérique will deal with
knowledge organization endeavours to account for traditional and
modern organization models. It will also study the relevance of
frequently used binary terms describing antagonistic knowledge
organization models: free/controlled, hierarchical/distributed,
passive/active, vertical/horizontal, professional/social. It will
finally try to answer three fundamental questions:

1. Where do we come from? We cannot answer this question without first
   reviewing knowledge organization tradition, history, basic
   objectives and theoretical bases.

2. Where are we currently? To answer this topical question, we have to
   look at accounts of experiments going back to the beginning of the
   21st century, to learn about more conceptual and technological
   contemporary applications, and to study proposals of modifications
   to traditional theories.

3. Where are we going? The third question will lead to examining the
   immediate future and to test a number of so-far unverified
   hypotheses. Under the impact of participatory and social networks,
   are we witnessing the falling by the wayside of processes of
   systematic knowledge and information organization that have been
   used for a very long time? Or are we, on the opposite, about to
   take advantage of tradition and systematization for building and
   designing methods and tools capable of adjusting themselves to the
   evolution of an ever more forbidding technological environment?

Categorization theory 
Classification theory
Document classification and its use in the internet environment
Automatic classification and categorization
Faceted structures for knowledge organization 
Structures and relations in knowledge organization
Language and culture and their impact on knowledge organization
 Knowledge organization paradigms (cognitive, semiotic, linguistic and
 computational)
Social and collaborative classifications
Knowledge organizing systems and tools and their interoperability

Contribution should conform to the guidelines available on the
journal’s website: http://lcn.revuesonline.com/ (or by request from
lcn at lavoisier.fr)

Chapters should not exceed 30 pages including references.
Proposals are to be sent in Word or RTF format (cf. guidelines attached)
Final versions are to be submitted in Word format. 
PDF format will be accepted but orthographic corrections will then
have to be undertaken by the authors and not by Lavoisier.
