*Job Description*
The objective of the proposed PhD work is to study new approaches to
question answering (QA) systems in the context of support tools for
group discussions. The emphasis will be on interactive QA, in which
human users engage in spoken dialogue with a context-aware QA system,
during a group discussion. The is to provide just-in-time question
answering with minimal intervention from the human user.
The work will advance natural language processing and human-computer
dialogue techniques, taking advantage of the integration with Idiap's
real-time speech recognition system, and building on Idiap's automatic
content linking system. The work will target an application in the
realistic context of a smart meeting room.
The successful candidate should hold a master degree and demonstrate a
strong background in computer science and programming, and preferably
knowledge and past experience in natural language processing,
human-computer dialogue, HCI, or multimodal interaction. The position
is for four years, and the successful candidate should get enrolled in
one of EPFL's doctoral programs.
