Afin de se constituer en science, la linguistique a opéré une rupture
avec la philologie. Abandonnant l'édition et le commentaire des
textes, elle a établi son champ d'observation en dehors des écritures
vernaculaires pour comparer des formes sonores. Elle s'est ouvert
ainsi un accès à toutes les langues (et à tous les états de langue),
qu'elles aient été ou non consignées par écrit.


Le 25e colloque international du CerLiCO tentera d'appréhender le
travail que réalise le linguiste au moment où il définit ses objets et
élabore ses outils en interrogeant trois notions fondamentales, trois
gestes qui sont au principe de l'analyse :

- Transcrire, c'est-à-dire interroger quelle signification revêt la
  conversion d'un signal sonore en une représentation scripturale.

- Écrire, c'est-à-dire poser la question des relations entre un
  système conventionnel de représentation graphique et la structure
  (phonologique, morphologique, syntaxique, sémantique…) des langues,
  dans leur organisation et leurs interactions.

- Formaliser, c'est-à-dire répondre à la nécessité d'un principe
  d'explication pour construire un système (et non plus un inventaire)
  ayant ses règles propres et qui vaut universellement dans le temps,
  dans l'espace et dans la société, réaliser le projet d'une
  linguistique « algébrique » (Saussure) dont une partie des
  propriétés est justiciable d'un traitement automatique.

Dans le mouvement qui va du signal à la modélisation, on s'interrogera
sur ce qui s'accomplit et sur les significations de ce travail.

Les communicants disposeront de 25 minutes pour leur exposé qui sera
suivi d'une discussion de 15 minutes. Les communications affichées
(posters) bénéficieront d'une séance de présentation. Il est prévu 15
communications environ. Les actes du colloque seront publiés en 2012
dans les Travaux Linguistiques du CerLiCO n° 25 aux Presses
Universitaires de Rennes.

Les propositions, anonymes, sont à envoyer sous forme électronique,
accompagnées des noms, coordonnées universitaires et électroniques de
l'auteur(e) / des auteur(e)s ; elles comporteront une présentation de
la problématique et des données (environ 500 mots / 3000 signes) ainsi
qu'une brève bibliographie. L'auteur(e) devra préciser si elle/il
souhaite présenter son travail sous forme de communication ou de
poster. Ces résumés seront diffusés lors de l'inscription au colloque
et accessibles sur le site web du CerLiCO.

TRANSCRIBING, WRITING, FORMALISING - 2

In order to become a science, linguistics eventually departed from
philology. Having turned away from publishing and commenting on texts,
it has set up its field of observation outside vernacular writings in
order to compare sound forms. Thus, it has given access to all
languages (at whatever stage in their evolution), whether they should
have had a written form or not.


The 25th CerLiCO International Conference will attempt to understand
the work of the linguist when he specifies his objects and elaborates
his tools. In this perspective it will discuss three fundamental
notions, three gestures that are the basis of analysis:


Transcribing. This amounts to ponder the significance of the
conversion of a sound signal into a graphic representation.

Writing. This asks the question of the existing relations between a
conventional graphic system of representation and the structure of
languages (phonological, morphological, syntactic, semantic, …)
within their organisation and their interactions.

Formalising. This answers the necessity of an explanatory approach
that will lead to the construction of a system – and no longer a mere
inventory. A system possessing its own internal rules and having
universal value in time, space and society. This would mean fulfilling
Saussure's algebraic linguistics project, parts of which can be
assessed by automatic processing.


Our aim will be to understand what gets accomplished within the
movement going from the signal to modelling and what this work means.

Presentations will last 25 minutes and will be followed by a 15
minute-discussion. The Conference will include a poster session, and
there will be about 15 presentations altogether. The Proceedings will
be published in 2012 in Travaux Linguistiques du CerLiCO, Vol. 25,
Presses Universitaires de Rennes.

Submissions should include, in addition to the author's institutional
affiliation and e-mail address, an anonymous abstract of around 500
words / 3,000 characters, with a few references attached. Authors
should specify whether they wish to present a paper or a poster. The
abstracts will be posted on the CerLiCO website and sent to
participants on registration for the Conference.
