SALARIED PHD POSITION IN COMPUTER HUMAN INTERACTION AND NATURAL LANGUAGE
PROCESSING AT CAEN BASSE-NORMANDIE UNIVERSITY - GREYC LAB/HULTECH TEAM -

The work focuses on improving non-visual access to digital documents on
touch-screen tablets based on the extraction and reorganization of the
structure of texts, documents and interfaces. As such, the
high-dimension structure of documents is made available through
haptic-oral interaction. The proposition involves three main components:
interpretation of texts (NLP), reorganization of structures (HCI) and
haptic perception (ELEC).
CONTEXT
-----------------------
This thesis will take place within the context of the ART-ADN project
supported by the call for "innovative societies" of the French National
Agency for Research (ANR). The candidate will develop his work in the
GREYC laboratory (CNRS UMR 6072) of the University of Caen
Basse-Normandie (UCBN) and the National Superior Engineering School of
Caen (ENSICAEN). In particular, the HULTECH (Human Language
Technologies) team and the ELECTRONIC team will be involved in the
supervision of the thesis.
SALARY DETAILS
-----------------------
The successful individual will be employed as a salaried researcher at
Caen Basse-Normandie University, while studying towards his/her PhD. For
employment in France, the reference figure for net salary is *1,375*
euros/month
The post is fixed term for three years with a start date about Marsh
2013 or soon after.
REQUIREMENTS & ELIGIBILITY
------------------------------------------
The high-standard successful candidate will possess a Master degree
covering primarily the field of User-centered Design of Interfaces and
Human-Computer Interaction (HCI). Additional skills that would be
appreciated are Speech and Natural Language Processing (NLP),
Electronics (ELEC) and/or Image Processing (IMAGE). Autonomy and
openness are also required since the project will be developed in a
multidisciplinary collaboration involving psychologists (PALM UPRES EA
4649), ergonomists and associations of visually impaired people (VIP).
