The Human Language Technologies research unit of Fondazione Bruno
Kessler offers 7 project specific grants for doctoral students starting
with the A.Y. 2012-2013, in the following areas:
- Speech Recognition and Machine translation (2 project grants)
Speech Recognition for Multimedia Content (contact: Daniele

Machine Translation for CAT (contact: Nicola Bertoldi)
- Natural Language Processing (4 project grants)
Events and presuppositions (contact: Octavian Popescu)
Event processing (contact: Sara Tonelli)
Component-Based Textual Entailment (contact: Bernardo Magnini)
Automatic Information Extraction over the Tourism Domain
(contact: Bernardo Magnini)
- Encoding of Event Knowledge in Language Resources as a support for
the Diagnosis and Rehabilitation of Language Disorders (contact:
Emanuele Pianta)

Candidates should meet the following requirements:
Degree in Computer Science, Computational Linguistics, Mathematics,
Electrical Engineering, or Physics.
Studies should have been completed efficiently, recently and with an
above of average mark.
Advanced knowledge in either Computational Linguistics, Machine
Learning, Statistics, Patter Recognition, or Speech Recognition.
Programming experience in C/C++ and/or Java, Python, Perl in the
Unix environment.
Good English knowledge.
Doctorate fellowships, which are sponsored by FBK, will be formally
pursued at the ICT International Doctorate School of the University of
Trento. The program starts between June and November 2012, has a minimum
length of three years and includes attendance of courses during the
first two years, while the third is fully dedicated to research
work. Detailed information about the School and the grant assigned to

Interested candidates are invited to get in touch with the above

projects and the specific application procedure to be followed. In
particular, candidates are required to apply for a project specific
grant by Fondazione Bruno Kessler. For a limited number of applicants
there are also opportunities of attending a pre-enrollment internship at
