*Postdoc Research Position in Scientific Information Extraction and
Summarization*
TALN Research Group, Department of Information and Communication
Technologies (DTIC), Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF), Barcelona, Spain
Applications are invited for a 3-year Postdoc position in the area of
Scientific Information Extraction, Text Mining, and
Summarization. Funding for the position arises from a new collaborative
7th FP project from the European Commission in the area of Computer
Creativity (Technologies and scientific foundations in the field of
creativity).
The research will be carried out at the Natural Language Processing
research group (TALN) in Barcelona under the supervision of Dr. Horacio
Saggion as PI.
*Brief Description of Work*
The project will investigate supervised and semi-supervised techniques
in natural language processing (NLP) to develop an adaptable information
extraction and summarization system for scientific textual data. The
research will contribute with a NLP system able to extract and represent
valuable information from research papers and related documents. The
work will contribute to the development of an advanced Web-based system
to support scientific creativity.
*Requirements*
We are looking for a highly motivated individual with 3-5 years
experience in the areas of text mining/information extraction and/or
text summarization and with a strong record of publications in major
conferences and journals.
Applicants must have:
- a PhD in computer science, artificial intelligence, or computational
linguistics
- very good track record of publications in the area of natural language
processing (NLP)
- knowledge of statistical, rule-based, supervised and semi-supervised
techniques in NLP
- good knowledge of English
- knowledge of Java is a plus
- knowledge of the GATE infrastructure and SUMMA summarization system is
a plus
*Starting Date*
The postdoc is expected to star beginning of January 2014.
*Salary and working conditions*
We offer a yearly gross salary in the scale €33000-€37000 depending on
qualifications and experience. Researchers at UPF have 30 days per year
holidays and national medical insurance.
