TALN Research Group, Department of Information and Communication
Technologies (DTIC), Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF), Barcelona, Spain

Applications are invited for a 12-months research position in the area
of text simplification. Funding for the position arises from a new
collaborative European project.

The research will be carried out at the Natural Language Processing
research group (TALN) in Barcelona under the supervision of Dr. Horacio
Saggion as PI.

*Brief Description of Work*


The work to be carried out involves the development/adaptation of a text
simplification system to the English language and improvement of
technology already developed in the Simplext project.

 *Qualifications:*


 Applicants should have:


*** a MsC or PhD in computer science, artificial intelligence, or
computational linguistics


*** Knowledge of machine-learning and rule-based approaches


*** Knowledge of Java is a plus


*Additionally:*


*** Knowledge of the GATE system will be well appreciated


*** Highly motivated individual with experience or interest in the area
of automatic text simplification and/or summarization.


*Language requirements:*


*** good knowledge of English


*Starting date:*


The position is expected to start early March/April 2014.

*Educational level required:*


Msc. or PhD.


 *Salary and duration of the contract*


We offer a gross salary of EURO 20.000 - EURO 22.000 which can be
complemented with teaching if desired.

The duration of the contract is 12 months. The position can be extended
depending on available funds.
