Subject: "Etymology"
I came across a Usenet posting about the background of the English word
boor:
>boor (noun)
>[Dutch boer; akin to Old English buan to dwell -- more at BOWER]
>First appeared 1551
> 1 : PEASANT
> 2 : a rude or insensitive person
The thing I'm mostly interested in is the word 'buan' meaning to dwell. Am I
correct in assuming that 'buan' is relating to the Dutch word 'boenen' and
to
dwell is related to 'dweilen'?
