[I.j], so a front rounded first element? I seem to remember
something more like [@<umd>j] or [@j], so starting central
unrounded, in the word corresponding to Dutch "bij", in the
Achterhoek variety.

(O nee, er was gevraagd om meer Nederlands op de lijst; waarom doe
ik dat dan niet? Goed, daar gaat-ie nog een keer):

[I.j], dus een geronde voorklinker als eerste element? Ik meen me
meer iets te herinneren in de richting van [@<umd>j] of [@j], dus in
het begin centraal ongerond, in het woord dat overeenkomt met
Nederlands "bij", in de Achterhoekse variant.
Vrijwel hetzelfde als wat in het Russisch geschreven wordt als bI~H
(ik bedoel de letter die eruit ziet als bI, maar vaak
getransacribeerd y, met daarachter een letter i (ogedraaide N) met
een breve erboven (klein boogje met de buik omlaag)).

Henno, the first of the two Russian sounds is higher than a schwa.  It is the
medial equivalent of /i/ and is represented in IPA as an i with a bar through
the middle of it.  (The back equivalent is represented in IPA by an upside-down
m.)  However, it could well be that the sound is lower in certain dialects.
