Subject: LL-L: "Etymology" LOWLANDS-L, 19.DEC.1999 (05) [E]
> Hi folks!

> Reinhard asked for the etymology of Low Saxon "Pracher".
Hello,
I Also looked it up in Van dale's Etymologisch Woordenboek, the following:
prachen [bluffen, pronken, smeken] eerst 16e eeuws [vrachen, bedelen,
pochen]; waarchijnlijk via het hd. (Pracher [bedelaar] 16e eeuw) uit het
slavisch, vgl. b.v. oekra:iens prochaty [verzoeken].
pracht [praal] <hd. Pracht, oudhd. braht, praht, oudsakisisch braht,
middelnd., oudnoors brak, oudeng. breathm [gedruis, lawaai]; buiten het
germ. lat. fragor [gekraakt], middeliers braigim [ik laat een wind].
Met vriendelijke groet / Kind regards,
Andre van den Berg
