It's no ower bad teachin-weys, tho. Maist o the words in Scots at can
haurdly be spelt phonemically is anes at's aither (1) awfu frequent anes,
at ye'll lairn first oniewey, an (b) anes at's sayed the same in English -
at we can maistly assume aabodie lairnin Scots will ken. It's the feck o
the vocabular - words like 'fouth', 'skreich' an 'golach' - at needs ti be
spelt phonemically for teachin ettles, no sae muckle anes like 'station' an
'be'. Some is nearhaund unpossible wi'oot depairtin frae the tradeitional
spellins - like 'gemme', at coud, if ye didna ken better, be [dZEm]. Words
like 'door' an 'tongue' - at haes orra spellins but nae _rael_ etymological
excuiss for thaim - is the warst.
