Subject: Muis
As do some of you no doubt, I subscribe to A.Word.A.Day. If you don't
know about this great service, look at:
http://www.wordsmith.org/words/today.html
where you can subscribe. Today's word is:
thenar (THEE-nahr) noun
The fleshy mass on the palm of the hand at the base of the thumb.
Now Dutch has its own word for this: muis. My question is:
1 - do other Lowlands languages have a similar word for this body part?
(or a word at all?)
2 - is the word related to the more common meaning of 'muis' (mouse)
After all, it has about the size of a mouse, but that is where
the similarity ends (at least, looking at my own hand)
