Subject: "Contractions"
I'v been thinkin on the uise (or no-uise) o "it-" contractions in Scots.
Thirablo's gey uizual in Wast Kintra (o England) spaek:
'twas
'twere
'tis
(an the enclitic negatives 'tisn't &c)
I think they'r uizial in Irish English an aa, wi the influence Wast Kintra
spaek haes haed on Irish English.
What A'm askin tho is, ar thir uized in Scots speak an aa? A'v never heard
them in Scots, tho they ar aften uized in Scots poetry - but syne they'r
uized ootthrou English poetry an aa for poetic effect, sae that tells us
naething.
Ay or na?

Sandy,
How about ...
't was
't were
't is
... with a space? That's how I and others do it in Low Saxon (Low German).
Regards,
Reinhard/Ron
