Subject: LL-L: "Archaisms" LOWLANDS-L, 07.NOV.1999 (06) [D/E]
Haai julle!
Roger Thijs [roger.thijs at village.uunet.be] vra na aanleiding van die
"Register vanden Veghenooten der Stadt Sint-Truyden
ghepassert bij heeren ende Stadt opden XXJen Maij 1590".
Some words I don't recognise in modern Dutch may exist in other lowland
languages.
*Manuscript/ Modern Dutch/Comments
__Aert__/ Verpachter/ The one who lend the land to somebody
Ek ken die vorm nie in Afrikaans nie, behalwe (moontlik) as die derivatiewe
suffiks in woorde soos gierigaard/suinigaard/vrekkerd [vrekaard]. Dalk het die
vorm _aard_ oorspronklik "houer/eienaar/besitter" beteken?
__wen__/ Pachter/ The one who lends the land from somebody
- comment: I just know the word "wénning" for lage farm in my dialect,
- comment: cf. Dutch "broodwinning" (main income)
Ja, die laaste betekenis kom ook voor in die Afr. _broodwinner_ (die
persoon wat 'n gesin se inkomste verdien).
Dalk hou die familienaam _Henning_ hiermee verband?
__tochter__/ vruchtgebruiker/ the one that may have the revenues
of the land (as long as he lives)
Ek ken geen vorm in Afrikaans wat hiermee ooreenkom nie.
In Afrikaans is dit _bywoner_.
Groete,
Elsie Z
