>This is about an old-time carrying device and its name, both in Low Saxon (Low

Dear Lowlanders,
In Plautdietsch it is variously written/spoken as 'Peed,' 'Peedj' or 'Peegj.'
In other Prussian dialects of Low Saxon the word for 'Holztrage fuer die
Wassereimer' was 'Peede,' according to Rudolf Becker in 'So
schabberten wir to Hus.' Confirmed by Guenther Krieger in 'Sprache der
Heimat.'
Becker adds that in Niedersachsen the word is 'Schame.' None of these
words seem to appear in Lindow's 'Plattdeutsches Woerterbuch.'
(Unless I am missing them).
Any more comprehensive dictionaries of Low Saxon out there?
Cheers!
Reuben Epp

Ït may interest some that the "Draag" is still commercially manufactured
in China,or at least was a few years ago...Cornelius Bergen
