Subject: Fwd: Frisian studies

A decision about the future of Frisian studies at the Universiteit van
Amsterdam will be taken on December 21st. So far, over 200 letters of protest
have reached the university board. I beg on all of you to express your worries
about the possible discontinuation of Frisian studies in Amsterdam.
For reference I have enclosed my previous posting.

Dear Lowlanders,

As you may or may not have heard, the Universiteit van Amsterdam is
considering to discontinue the possibility of studying Frisian. Realization of
these plans would diminish the number of universities in the Netherlands
offering modern Frisian to one - the Rijksuniversiteit Groningen.

I want to call on all of you to raise your voices against this proposal and
send a letter of protest to the addresses you find below. In a similar case,
massive protests from all around the world have eventually led to the
restoration of Frisian as a main subject at the university of Flensburg.

A copy of your letter to me would be highly appreciated.
