Subject: Texicaans Field Day

Liewe Laaglanders,

    This year's Texicaans Field Day will be held in Cape Town.  It will begin
with a visit to Table Mountain and will continue with a walking tour of the
city.  The day will conclude with a hike in the hills above Stellenbosch.
For further details please send email to zeelands at aol.com prior to Feb 20.

    The following is a text written in latest revision of Texicaans.  It is
the beginning of a short story by Willie Robbertse.

    -Die Rykst Vrou-

    Die doodsrit het vir Jakob Botha by die handelshof begin.
    Hy het met onrus in sy óe na die wolke gekyk, gehuiwer of hy die seil oor
die sakkies sement sou trek en of hy betyds by die huis sal wees met die
waardevolle vrag van hom voor die réen uitsak.
    "Jy sal moet eil, Papa, als jy nie wil hae die druppeltjies moet jou
sement gaan nat spat nie!" het die magasynmeester gewaarsku, die óe laggend
in sy brée oop gesig.  Réen hierdie tyd van die jaar laat 'n man se óe blink.
    Of dit die weer was wat sy aandag van die pad afgetrek het, of dit
moeggeid was wat hom oorval het en of hy te vinnig gery het, sal neimand ooit
weet nie, maar daar by die skerp draai, net voor jy die plat-lae-vlakte vat,
het die vragmotor geswik.  Toe gly sy vier wiele en raak die voertuig die pad
byster, galop oor rotse teen die skuinnste na die sloot af, bokspring
daaroor, probeer oor die dieptes van die spruit se bedding spring, maar
daarvor was die spoed te stadig.  Die neus van die vragmotor tref die
oorkantste wal, die voertuig vou soos 'n kosertina inmekaar...
